February 2007

Dear Friends,

Praise the Lord!  That is all we can say after the wonderful Commissioning service for Brother Jose Luis Uc and his family on Sunday, February 4.  The attendance was great with 125 in the morning service and 153 in the evening service.  Dr. George Jensen, President Emeritus of our Mission Board, EMU International , preached the Commissioning sermon.  We also had the Coreys, Weirichs, and the Nelsons with us, friends since way back in the 1960s.

Brother Jose Luis was very excited about going to his hometown of Becal, Campeche, to start a new church.  While the church was under construction, he had services every Wednesday.  One lost soul, his sister Silvia, was saved during those services.  On Wednesday, February 7, 2007, they held their first service after moving to Becal, with 27 people attending.  On Saturday, February 10, we received a call from Jose Luis telling us that Benito, Sylvia's husband, was saved.  Their daughter was saved in Cancun when she came here to live in 2005.  Lord willing we'll be hearing about more souls being saved.

The church in Cancun is also doing very well.  Souls have been saved and on Sunday, February 11, we will have a baptismal service.  Lord willing three people will be baptized.  One is a young man, Daniel, who was saved in the jail ministry.  He is now out and coming to services faithfully.

In December, our teens presented a Christmas play in Cancun and Chemax.  It was a very blessed time, but also a very busy time.  We had services from Wednesday the 20th all the way to Sunday the 24th.  Needless to say we needed a break after that, so Gwendolyn and I went to Merida, Yucatan, for a two-day vacation.

As some of you may already know, the Lord provided the opportunity for us to start a jail ministry about 4 months ago.  Thus far five people have been saved.  Of those saved, two of them have already been released and are faithfully attending the church services.  There are others still in jail who need our prayers.  It is a great blessing to see God's Word working in people's hearts and to see lives being changed.  Please pray especially for Jose Antonio.  His ex-wife accused him of raping her, and he has been in jail for over four months.  In Mexico you are guilty until proven innocent.  He is innocent but still has to prove it!  The courts here move very slowly since there are no verbal presentations, everything has to be done in writing.  The judge has to read the whole case before he can make a decision, and some of the cases I have seen are hundreds of pages long.

The next big event in our church history is the wedding of Tono and Karina at our church in Cancun on Saturday, March 17.  You are all welcome and invited to come!  Tono is Ciro's son and also his assistant pastor.  Karina went to Ciro's church a year and a half ago to help with the music and teach the ladies and children.  Raul will drive to Santa Martha, Chiapas, to bring back Ciro and his family and also some of the church members for the wedding.  Lord willing, Gwendolyn and I will take them back and take the opportunity to check on some land for the church Tono and Karin will be starting next February.  Once we find the right location we'll let all of you know.  We are very excited about the prospect of starting a new church in Trinitaria, Chiapas.

We are so thankful for all of you who continued to the building of Jose Luis Uc's church in Becal, Compeche.  It is hard for us to find words to express our appreciation for your prayers and financial support.  But we want you to know that we thank the Lord continually for you.  May the Lord bless you greatly as you continue to serve Him.

With love in Christ,

Marco and Gwendolyn Nuñez
